The Country superstar ushers in football's triumphant return

September 14, 2020

Carrie Underwood marshaled in the musical reinforcements to kick off a new season of Sunday Night Football, over the weekend. Her latest socially distant theme song featured high flying graphics with clips of fans celebrating the NFL’s miraculous 2020 start amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Camera angles fawn over Carrie’s light-bright reflective dress and powerful voice, as she belted lyrics reflecting the excitement of fans across the country; “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night.” Underwood filmed her portion of theme from a Nashville studio, adhering to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.

The “Before He Cheats” singer posted behind the scenes action from the video shoot to her Instagram page. Carrie says football is a much needed distraction for those overwhelmed by this tumultuous year. "More than anything, everybody's just grateful that we get to do this,” she said. “I think people need Sunday Night Football. We need that bit of normalcy, even if we're going about it in a slightly different way."

Sunday Night football featured the Rams narrowly beating the Cowboys, 20-17, among empty seats in Los Angeles’ So-Fi Stadium.

Carrie will continue entertaining the masses this week, performing live at the 55th annual ACM Awards. Blake Shelton featuring Gwen Stefani, and Trisha Yearwood round out a spectacular cast of musicians who will perform on stages all across Nashville, this Wednesday.

Underwood, nominated for Entertainer of the Year, will honor trailblazing female Grand Ole Opry members for the venue’s 95th anniversary, performing songs by Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Barbara Mandrell, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton.
